B Corp Certifications on the Rise in the Italian Wine Sector: 43% Growth in One Year

In the Italian wine sector, several companies are obtaining the B Corp Certification, a recognition for companies that pursue sustainability goals and positive impact. According to B Lab Italia, Italy currently has 7 certified wineries, representing 30% of the wine B Corps in Europe and surpassing other countries such as France and Denmark. In 2023, these companies – Perlage Winery, Feudi di San Gregorio, Avignonesi, Tasca d’Almerita, Cielo e Terra, Perrini and Marcel Zanolari – collectively generated over 125 million euros.
In Italy, the number of B Corp certifications in the wine sector has increased by 43% compared to previous years, and 16 other companies are currently evaluating the approach. B Corp Certification is also associated with growth in turnover: research by Intesa Sanpaolo highlights a 32,4% increase compared to 2019 for B Corp companies, compared to 19% recorded by other companies in the sector.
Certified Italian wineries stand out for various sustainability initiatives. Perlage Winery has reduced the use of conventional packaging, limiting CO2 emissions; Feudi di San Gregorio uses renewable energy and has introduced sustainable packaging; Avignonesi has initiated actions to protect local biodiversity; Tasca D’Almerita has created the SOStain program for the sustainability of Sicilian viticulture; Perrini supports local communities and social inclusion projects; Marcel Zanolari adopts biodynamic practices to improve soil quality; finally, Cielo e Terra is powered exclusively by renewable energy and has initiated measures to save water and reduce waste.
These companies apply a production model that integrates sustainability and attention to local communities, contributing to a change in the management of the wine supply chain.
